 Carlisle Indians Collection

1901 Carlisle Indians Football Team Cabinet Photograph with a young future baseball Hall of Famer Chief Bender.  Other notables in the photograph include Pop Warner and Indians star Jimmy Johnson.  One of my favorite parts of the image, is the player named Beaver in the front row, has a melon football propped on his shoulder, with the football sporting a 1901 cap.

1909 Imperial Sized Carlisle Indian School Cabinet Photograph with Pop Warner in the back row, and Joseph Libby, the captain, holding a large melon shaped football.  Libby was one of the players with whom Jim Thorpe left Carlisle during a summer to play baseball in South Carolina; an act that would later result in Jim Thorpe losing his Olympic medals.
